Cruising cucumbers and pirate pill bugs

*UPDATED*  Events are happening in the garden faster than I can update the blog.  I had to update this post before I even got it posted.  See update after the image.

The cucumbers that were planted last Friday could not stay in the ground and beat the rest of the recent planting by emerging in just 6 days. Unfortunately, the pests of the garden were already there. Pill bugs were hanging on one of the seedlings so I sprinkled the slug killer and so far, it seems to be working.

Cucumbers make an appearance

Tonight (Friday), I popped out to the garden to check on the progress and found that a number of other plants have begun to emerge now as well.  Joining the rest of the garden is Yellow Squash, a single green bean, brussels sprouts, zinnias and the second planting of spinach.  Still waiting on the lima beans, zucchini, carrots and sunflowers.

The forecast for this weekend is showing a possibility of frost.  I’ll be keeping an eye on the temperature and see if I need to cover the plants.
