Happy Fourth of July!

So, I figured this would be good to check up on one of the tomato varieties. It seemed to be that the Fourth of July variety would be a good place to start.

Not ready yet

While there are plenty of green tomatoes, there was no fresh sliced tomatoes for the hamburgers this Independence Day.  Sadly, they don’t appear to be any hurry to ripen either.  The spec sheet says 49 days after planting in the garden which would make the target date 07/11/13.  So, if I didn’t have to wait for Burpee to get around and send me the plants, I *might* have had a chance to get some tomatoes by the holiday.  I guess we’ll see if they hit their target date next week.

Tomato horn worm moving in

While checking on the tomatoes I just so happened to spot this little guy.  Sorry to say for him, he should have stayed hidden a bit longer as he was promptly dispatched.  These guys can wreak havoc on a tomato plant if left alone.
