Not bad for the first day of fall

I spent a bit more time in the garden today and came out with two bags. The first was a lawn bag of garden waste. The second was a bag full of yet more tomatoes and cucumbers. This will be the end of the cucumbers as most of the lawn bag was filled with the spent cucumber plants. By far, this has been the best cucumber year I have ever had.

  1. I wouldn’t be surprised if I’m still pulling tomatoes from my outside plants in mid-October. Of course, I have some cherry tomatoes in pots that I’ll be moving inside that I hope to be harvesting from at Thanksgiving, but that’s a different story! Would be interested to see if you’re doing any fall crops, or are you just readying things for next year at this point?

    • Hi Valerie,

Thanks for the comment. Yes, I am not as surprised at the tomatoes as I am the cucumbers. It looks if the weather keeps on its current course, I’ll still be getting some tomatoes for another week or two yet.

As for fall crops, I have really slacked off this year. In the past I have tried to get a second crop of peas and lettuce, but this year I just never got around to planting them. I’m really regretting not having fresh lettuce now. Perhaps I’ll have more time and be more organized next year.
