Garden Blog Road Show

Yesterday, the garden blog went on a trip to visit and help out at the family garden. While the girls of the family were off at a bridal shower, Ethan and I helped my dad till the garden and plant some green beans and onions.  As you can see in the pictures below, their garden is quite a bit larger than my suburban garden.  I’d end up feeding half the neighborhood and office if I had a garden that big.  While they don’t have to fight off the larger pests like deer and rabbits, they have a far harder time with the weeds.  Weed seeds from all the neighboring fields blow through and make it an endless challenge. Even with the mechanical assistance of the tiller, it was a fair amount of work just planting those two things.

It wasn’t all free labor though, I came back with a handful of asparagus which grilled up tasty as well as a bunch of rhubarb that is just begging to be baked with some strawberries into a pie.
