Greenhand again

It has been quite a few years since I’ve had my hand dyed green as a freshman in high school, but spreading some fresh grass clippings on the garden as mulch sure did the trick. Apparently there seems to be a bit of debate about the use of fresh grass clippings on the garden. A bit of internet searching seems to provide pros and cons with more than enough personal opinions. It is the internet after all, what would we do without people spouting their all knowing ‘wisdom’.  I think I’ll just use it around the already growing plants and keep an eye on them and see what happens. The temperatures are forecast to drop back down out of the 80s next week and get to the more seasonable 60s. Hopefully the thin layer of grass will keep the soil warm on the cooler nights.

  1. Well, right, wrong, or indifferent, I can tell you that I pilfer my neighbor’s grass clippings (with permission, of course!) to use in the very same way. The problem is in our shady front yards, the lot of us only need to mow our yards about once every month to six weeks, so there aren’t many clippings to be had! I consider myself lucky to put down grass like that once a season. Now, if you want some leaves on the other hand … I got you covered (pun!).

Always nice to see the family joining in on the fun!
